Best Popup Camping Screen Room? - The Gazelle Tent Portable Gazebo
I built a 24' foot cargo camper some years back. Used it for 9 years with 300 watts of solar and two agm batteries. It worked great boon docking and I only needed my generator for ac and microwave just like you mentioned. I don't understand these huge solar systems you see. They still can't keep up with a roof top AC. But they seem way overkill for the other odd and ends. A moderate solar and battery setup paired with a good generator seems like the logical way to go.
A truck oh, OK. You’re not talking about a class C you’re talking about a camper you put on the back of a truck. Gotcha.
Yep, exactly!
I'm an idiot. Maybe there's another channel for me to watch.
Sorry, it can be confusing. I tried to make it as simple as I could, lol! Thanks for watching.
A cutting board? What it needed was the wire basket inserts.
Baskets would be a nice addition. Although, I have used the cutting board. Thanks for watching.
You did forget how the topper makes sure that what you are hauling in the bed, let it be wood, garbage, or camping gear doesn't blow away or fall out of the bed. Great video btw.
Good point! Thanks for the comment and watching.
A long time ago I bought a coiled pop up tent. It was dirt cheap. I think I paid $25 for it on Netmarket, which was owned by American online at the time. It unfolded like the coiled laundry hampers, but was much bigger. It took seconds to pop up and once upright, it was 7 ft tall and we placed a small table and 2 lounge chairs in it. We lined the floor with a tarp and at night, the lantern was lit. The screening wasn’t as dense as this tent, but it kept the mosques out. The real small bugs, noseeums, did get through, but hovered near the roof and didn’t bother us at all. The next morning they were dead on the table, then we swept them off and cleaned the table. During the day, no bugs were in the tent and you got air from all sides. That was the first time we didn’t light a fire at night. With this tent, we loaded everything into the car and then put this tent bag on top of everything. It’s still going strong after all these years.
Sounds like a solid tent! Especially since it's so old. Thanks for the comment and watching!
@@ColoradoCamperman On one camping trip in lower Illinois, it got super windy and the only thing that happened was that one wall bowed in slightly. I had bought a propane camping stove with 2 burners at Costco. It had 25,000 btu burners for both burners and my friend was amazed that the stove was even cooking in those gale force winds. I had to agree, as the flames were\ going sideways even with the windscreens. With a Coleman kerosene stove, we were sure the flame would have been snuffed out. I found that those on the hot side, only cook at 14,500 btu and the other burner would cook at 7,250 btu and both would have to be on full. With the propane stove, you could independently control the heat. I also found out that the average kitchen stove is 14,500 btu.
I think it would help to add that you are speaking about the northern 1/2 or 1/3 of the USA. Down here in the South, our situation is nearly 100% different. Solar does NOT work well over 100* F which is sort of minimal June-September down here. Solar seems to have a sweet spot about 65-85*F. I hear my neighbors with solar on their roof complaining of poor performance when they need it the most.
Since I don't live down there, I didn't know about those issues. Thanks for sharing.
I figured out a really slick method to gain a grip on cargo loaded toward the cab. Just carry a long-handled garden hoe. Hook he blade over what ever you want to pull toward yourself by the tail gate.
Excellent video. Clear instructions and not a lot of chit-chat or goofiness. Hate that.
Thanks for the comment and watching!
Looks like it isn't under 10k now.
The base is $9,900 now and the model I got is $10,700. They were $1,000 off when I bought it because it was an old model. The new models have a hydraulic cooler that mine doesn't have, wish it did.
@@ColoradoCamperman Nice. I, like you did, are deciding if it is worth the drive.
@@kicker6274 Yeah, it was definitely a long drive! I'm still liking it though. I wish they did a better job at engine access though. It's a PITA to access the engine.

Great! I just started working in Oklahoma. The dust is fine and nasty and my truck topper area is a mess. I'll give it a go!
It's worth a try! It definitely helped me. I'm still getting a ton of dust from my wheel wells. I need to use spray foam or something to fill that gap.
Does it have a battery or does it always have to be plugged in
It has to be plugged into a 12 volt or 120 volt source.
Sorry solar you will be sorry😮
Huh?
What county is this in? We are looking as well.
We sold that property last year, it is in huerfano county in Southern Colorado. Prices are a lot different than when we bought our land. Thanks for watching and have fun finding something!
200w can work if it’s portable. Positioning the panels directly at the sun is the key.
Moving the panels for the proper angle and with the sun makes a huge difference! Thanks for watching!
Pro tip- never use a power washer on your rv roof. You can easily damage the roof and/or caulking. As someone who seals rv roofs for a living I’ve seen it done countless times. Also. A extended reach handle on your roller will take off a ton of strain to your back and knees when rolling the Dicor on
I see where you are coming from. I wouldn't say NEVER use a powerwasher. I've been in the painting business for 20 years. I've seen plenty of homeowner's mess up fences, decks, concrete, and more with a powerwasher. Does that mean that we don't powerwash those surfaces because you can damage them? No. Someone who knows what they're doing with a powerwasher, can use it to do this job. An extension pole can definitely help! Thanks for watching.
Does the township consider a shipping container to fall under the same standards as a shed? Because if a 10x12 is the maximum allowable Structure that you can have, Did they approve the container that's 160 square feet. I'm only asking because I'm hoping I don't run into the same problem, but honestly I'll probably just took mines away, Out of sight out of mind????
I would check your county regulations. Some counties require permits to get a shipping container because people will buy them and build a cabin out of the container. If it's tucked in and out of sight from the road and/or satellite imagery, you'd probably be fine. Just FYI, some counties do use satellite images to enforce their regulations. My aunt had an off-grid cabin that her husband built around 25 years ago when the laws/regulations for their county were different. The county found out about the cabin once they updated their system to detect buildings based on satellites images. They tried to enforce their new laws on their old cabin. It was pretty ridiculous!
@ColoradoCamperman Wow that's crazy because when I was trying to decide what I was going to do when I first bought my recreational land, I spoke with an electrician yo get a quote on electrical service and he told me that the township Supervisor was using satellite images to enforce zoning codes and I wasn't sure if he was necessarily telling the truth because I kinda got the impression that they didn't get along and that seemed a little extreme But this is confirmation that they are using satellite imagery, manI really appreciate the good tip. Thank you
@@AJ-sb8qk Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous if you ask me. We have little to no privacy anymore these days. Glad that tip was helpful. Good luck with everything!
Do you want to level the rv the best you can before getting started?
It probably wouldn't hurt, but I'm not sure it is 100% necessary if you're not able to.
Glad you got the last year of 6.0 gas and not the first year of 6.4
Yeah, I have been happy with the 6.0! I wouldn't mind the extra HP, Torque, and MPG of the new engine. But didn't want to be the guinea pig for the first year.
200w of solar is not even close to enough for me. I have a 200w gaming laptop alone. I live in a Mitsubishi express van, with 780w of solar on top. All with a 135ah Lithium battery. I want to upgrade to 400ah total so I can run my laptop 24/7 (minecraft afk farms ;). Atm, I can only game during the hours of 9am and 3pm. But once I have that battery upgrade I'll be good to go.
We used our camper recreationally and didn't live in it. We also didn't have a device that took 200 watts of power. I agree it is not enough for you. It was plenty for us and our uses. Thanks for watching.
If that Dakota can haul 13k my jeep is fine with 2 quads lol
Thanks for the video! I'm at wait for a much larger scary cash purchase Excavator still in production. This actually eases my mind .
I have never talked with Ron, But I'm working with one of his dealers
Glad the video was helpful! How big of an excavator are you getting?
I've heard good things about his dealers. I wish there was one closer to Colorado!
I tried flex seal and it didn’t work i will follow your method
Yeah, it worked for 2-3 years. It was a good temporary fix.
It’s not the smell of the diesel that bothers me as a neighbor having diesel. It’s the bucket of bolts rattle it makes every morning for half an hour!!
Yeah, that would be annoying no matter if it's a diesel or not! Thanks for watching!
@@ColoradoCamperman Even the 2003 jeep grand Cherokee with the 4.0 Street six. Makes within 5 foot pounds of torque of the 1980s and 1990s military Humvees 6.5 L diesels! So a modern non-turbo gas engine can easily make more torque than an older non-turbo diesel! Even a street six gasoline engine easily makes the same torque as an older diesel! And only about 500 to 1,000 more rpm!
On the diesel you’ll spend most of that $165 on an oil change! 😂
When the Dodge is broken down!😂
Gave me more ideas. Thanks
You're welcome, thanks for the comment and watching!
Did you put the electrical tape around the wire nuts just to secure them better? I bought one "Safe-t-Alert" to replace my expired one and it's exactly the same except my old one was propane detector only and the new one is "Rv carbon monoxide/propane detector". That's ok isn't it?
I'm pretty sure I did use electrical tape, I usually do that. I think that would be fine to have a dual alarm, we had looked at one of those too. Thanks for watching!
DO NOT BUY KYMRON. ITS AN OVERPRICED VERSION OF THE SAME THING YOU GET OFF EBAY FOR THOUSANDS LESS.
Are you sure they are the same thing? They come with a hydraulic thumb, better pump, and a warranty with customer support. Aren't those things worth a higher cost?
@@ColoradoCamperman a better pump is 200 dollars. The parts are just as easy to obtain as any other excavator. Nothing kymron does makes it worth 3k more
@@ColoradoCamperman 2ton with ac swing boom and widening tracks 12k oh and hydraulic thumb.

I really appreciate your comment! I am glad that you thought the list was helpful. Thanks for watching and have fun out there!
This may sound like a silly question. If you're on shore power, does your solar still charge the batteries, or do you have some type of transfer switch to shut it off? I'm worried about backfeeding the shore power, but I don't know if that really is an issue or not.
I'm not 100% sure about that. I don't think the charge controller would allow that but I'm not certain. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, thanks for watching!
Hey Brian! Awesome to see you again! I hope you and fam are well. Awesome property!
Thank you very much! It's great to hear from you. We have been doing well. How is your fam? You been camping lately? Weren't you about to retire last time we talked?
Wow, great memory! Yes, I retired at the end of 2022 and spent the whole winter between central Florida and went all the way to Southern California with my camper.. it was awesome. I got home in the spring and then did my normal summer camping with my wife. This winter, I went back to Florida for about six weeks and came home in time for Easter. God is good! I would love to get out to Colorado this summer, but my wife is starting a new business right now and it probably won’t happen this year.
@@cslay06 That's awesome! Happy belated retirement! Sounds like you guys have been busy since then. I would love to do a long trip like that. I hope your wife's new business goes well!
Can you dig a waste leeching field while boon docking
On public land? Probably not, maybe on your personal land. You'd have to check county regulations.
Im in houston aka satans asshole. There is no way the enclosed one is going to work for me huh? But im at sea level so does that make a diff?
Lol! Yeah, I'd definitely go with an open frame generator. I love how quiet the 3500 is, but it had too many issues running in the heat. Sea level would probably make a difference. But if you're not concerned with noise, I'd go with the 4550 all day long.
We're trying to leave for NE as the growth where we are and govt. are out of control. I do hope for the sake of CO those fleeing their blue states don't vote to make it worse for the ones born and raised here wondering wtf happened to their once great state. Nice land. :).
I don't blame you for wanting to move. If I could convince my other half to move, I would do so. Colorado is definitely not the state I grew up in. It has only changed for the worse. Thanks for the comment and watching.
Diesels are great, but they are designed and intended for long-distance hauling or heavy weights over 10,000 pounds. Or both. If you’re hauling less than 10,000 pounds, and traveling distances typically less than 500 miles, and you’re only doing that a couple of times a month there’s really no reason not to go with a 6 L V8.
I agree, well said! Thanks for the comment and watching.
You think it works for a jackhammer? Im really thinking on getting one of these
Potentially, it depends on the amperage of the jackhammer.

I bought the Timbren SES for my 2002 Toyota Sequoia. Product was shipped from Timbren in Ontario, Canada to California via UPS ground. Not the fault of Timbren, but the shipping took nearly two weeks. Upon receipt of the product, I found that the bolt supplied to attach the rubber to the bracket would not fit through the supplied washer that Timbren ‘pre-loads’ in the rubber. I called Timbren and they confirmed that the wrong washer was supplied. Duh. Bad engineering/parts assembly. I ended up going to the local hardware store and bought 4 of the proper washers. I asked Timbren for a partial refund for the parts $2USD and for my trouble. They declined my request for a partial refund and are shipping me 2 washers from Canada. Short story, if I didn’t supply my own washers, I’d still be waiting for correct parts before I’d be able to install these $309 overgrown pencil erasers. Not impressed.
That's a shame you had a bad experience. I love our Timbrens and can't imagine what it would be like without them.
I have the bluetti 200 watt panels and they stopped working. Do you know how to trouble shoot and fix them?
If you hook a volt meter up directly to the MC4 connectors you may be able to troubleshoot the issue. I'm no solar expert, if bluetti has a support line, I'd call them.
Well you just might have changed my mind about purchasing a diesel truck. I do tractor 🚜 work here locally but many times have to decline work because I can’t drive my tractor there. What gasser would you recommend? Not purchasing new maybe a 2010 to 2018 truck with low mileage. I’ll only use it to tow my tractor 🚜 or when I go to the nursery to purchase plants and things for the ranch. We have rented trucks many times and I’m sick of doing that as well.
I bought my truck for a reason, reliability. I have a buddy who has the same truck as me with over 300,000 miles and no issues. While other trucks have a higher torque and HP rating, the Chevy 6.0 has been known to be a reliable engine. I was towing over 11,000 lb in a dump trailer a couple weeks ago, on flatland, my truck did awesome! Going up large hills and going to 9,700' in elevation it struggled. A diesel wouldn't have done that. So as long as you are not going up large hills constantly or high elevation, I think you would be fine. I hope that helps, thanks for watching!
Thank you so much. Do you know the years the 6.0 was on the Silverado and the GMC trucks. I even might consider a 3500 as well.
@@dpistone10 I'm not 100% sure, I think Chevy made them for 15 years or so. 2019 or 2020 was the last year they made the 6.0L.
@@ColoradoCampermanI found out the 6.0 L last year was 2019 so you are correct.
I wish you speak Spanish because I can't find any Spanish Chanel talking about this solar panels thanks for the video
I speak a little Spanish, but not enough to explain solar lol! Thanks for watching!
I have a chins 51.2 volt 100 amp hour lithium battery. 5120 watt hour. A hqst 60 amp charge controller a 48 volt 2500 watt power inverter. And a 20 amp 58.8 volt charger for the battery. It puts 1105 watts per hour back into the battery. Not sure how much solar I'm going to have yet. 400 to 800 watts I'm guessing on the solar panels
I’ve got a problem, I bought a used 4500. Open frame. Works well but plugging in to a rv with a 30 to 20 amp dog bone it trips the ground fault , if you turn off the main and plug it in it doesn’t trip. If you turn on the converter to charge the battery on the camper it trips the ground fault every time. Also leave off the converter, normal voltage.
Do you have the 4500 or 4550? The 4500 had issues, so Harbor freight recalled it. Some people were able to return it, others were not. Maybe you have the 4500?
It's been 3 years, is it holding up. Do you know if that Dicor ribber roof coating could be used on a TPO roof? I'm not looking to recoat the roof, I replaced the entire roof 4 years ago bit eant to use it to help seal the dicor self leveling sealant around vents and skylights as I don't like the way the dicor lap sealant is working. It never glows out that well (unless it's really hot outside). Thanks for all your tips.
I'm not 100% sure if you can use it on TPO, I think you can. Check Dicor's website. We sold that camper in the fall. The roof still looked great! Thanks for watching.
